PJ-Tertial-Bericht am Kreisklinik Wolfratshausen

In November 2018 I began my internal medicine rotation in Wolfratshausen. I was quite nervous as it was my first. However on the first day the "Chefarzt" greeted me and the team was very welcoming. Now on the wards, I drew a lot and I do mean a lot of blood and put in a lot of IVs. At the end of my 4 month rotation, I could hit just about any vein. To be honest that was one of the only negative aspects. One of the colleagues was pregnant so I took over her side of the ward but then more and more of the residents started pulling me to their wards to draw blood. In the end there were days where I was 3-4 hours drawing blood and puting in IVs- and I am not particularly slow. Other than that, I was a part of the team. Especially in the emergency department- great experience, learned a lot. In Gastro Block- was able to do a few twists and turns in the colonoscopy- much more difficult that it looks. And at the end, was quite proficient in an abdominal ultrasound. My time on the weaning station/ICU was okay. I did learn quite a bit which has most certainly helped in my first year of residency, but there was almost no teaching going on, and I just didn't really feel like part of the team. There is definitely room for improvement. I think if you are truly interested in internal medicine this is not a bad place to begin. It is a rather small house but you have a broad spectrum. Dr. Trautnitz really is what makes this hospital special. I learned so much from him and his teachings were always enthusiastic and so helpful.
