PJ-Tertial-Bericht am Spitalzentrum Biel

I did my Elective in Spitalzentrum Biel from October 2015 to January 2016. I was an exchange student from Australia, and I thoroughly enjoyed my Stay in Biel/Bienne. I was there with 3 Other elective students (1 from Bern and 2 from Germany). Right at the beginning of the Elective you are paired with a resident, my one was the Dr. Yildiz and he was awesome. But actually most of the team was kind of cool. You then change resident as your rotations change. You split your time between the emergency, the wards and the OR. On top of this you are on call every once in a while. Seeing we were 4 Elective students the split was great and we weren't on call too much, but I can imagine if you're just 2 it can be kind of shit. All in all I learnt a lot, and on a professional level I would definitely recommend it. I can't say it was a holiday, but I still found time to go skiing on the weekends. We went out a bit with the other students, and sometime with the residents. NB the hospital is bilingual, and even though you can get by with just german, it's practical when you also understand French.

I have untill now not met a nicer surgical team in any Hospital. Points Against: A bit far from Ski Stations (ca. 1.5 hours away by train) Not that much Nightlife Points for: Great learning experience. Great practical experience Great team I would deffinitely recomend this.
